Long time readers of the blog will know a bit about our friends at Scottys Little Soldiers, as they've appeared on the blog before for their record breaking efforts for the longest game of rugby. (if you'd like to read the original blogs they can be found HERE and HERE)
Basically, Scotty's is a charity that helps to support the children of fallen soldiers, i can't put into my own words the amazing work these guys and girls do, so here's the link to there website and their own 'About Me' section > HERE
Scotty's have come back onto my radar recently as they are the beneficiaries chosen by the Thacker family for funds raised by a charity family fun day at the Butts Park Arena in my home town of Coventry on the 31st May, including the Cpl Mike Thacker's memorial rugby match.
Mike Thacker was killed in action, in Helmand Province in 2012. He was just 27 years old and was a husband to Catherine and the father of a young child. His full story can be found HERE.
The Match will be Scottys vs Tamworth RUFC and is scheduled to kick off at 4pm (gates open to the fun day at midday) and tickets are £8 for Adults £4 senior citizens and £2 for kids. you can purchase an e-ticket HERE.
I believe the Scotty's side has a couple of ringers lined up, the facebook group mentions a certain former Gloucester, Wasps and England hooker being signed up, and a former Leicester, England (and #RugbyQA guest) will be a guest coach for the team.
They are aiming to have 2000 people at the game. If 2000 adults attended, the tickets alone would raise £16'000. Thats a massive amount of money. Thats one of the reason i wanted to throw #rugbyunited's support to this event. Its gonna be a great day out, plenty of fun, a game of rugby, loads of activities for the kids and CHEAP. Not just cheap but for a great cause!
You'll also get to see Digger the Dog from London Irish and the Scotty's mascot run 5 laps of the pitch! I don't envy them doing that in mascot suits! Especially if the sun is out!! (we're working on getting Dan O'Rourke to join them in drag!)
There is also the chance to cheer home Bethany Wood as she completes the 35 mile walk from Welford Rd to the Butts Park Arena and i'm told the premiership final will be shown in the bar too!
So come on down and support all the various events, meet some inspirational people and help raise money that will help to bring a smile back to the children of our fallen troops!
