Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm - a ramble, I guess!

I haven't blogged for AGES!! Life, work and Pokemon Go have taken over my life and I haven't had time (or inspiration) to do one.

Today is not really any exception! I have no clue as I start writing this where it will go....

Situation Vacant

OK, I'll start off with #rugbyunited bizzniss.... My lack of time has affected what I'm able to do with our charity partners at SODA, so we're looking for someone to help Sam and the team cross promoting SODA with the #rugbyunited network. If anyone is interested in taking this on, drop me an email to Rich@Rugbyunited.info

Drink?

October 22nd I'll be making my long overdue return to the Mecca of rugby, Kingsholm, to see Gloucester attempt to find some form against Treviso and as it'll be for my not quite 40th birthday, I''d like to invite anyone who fancies a pint with the worlds laziest blogger to pop along and meet me for a cider! If you're interested, my emails up above, gimme a shout and I'll tell you the plan!

Injury replacements

A few sides have announced new signings this week, the majority of which are for injury replacements, should this be allowed? The sides are given a budget to create a squad for a season, so if sides choose to spend a fortune on a player for one position, is it fair that if said player is injured, why should they be able to replace said player? Makes no sense to me. Gloucester for example had no wingers fit at the end of last season, Sharples, May, Purdy, Halaifonua were all unavailable long term, forcing them to play fullbacks Rob Cook and Stevie McColl on the wings, who then, both got injured! We were then down to bare bones and ended up blooding youngster Ollie Thorley who grabbed a try and was rather impressive. Other sides get injuries and rather than going to the extended squads or the youth set up bring someone on a short term deal which seems to end up as a permanant deal sooner or later (like when Saracens brought in Marcelo Bosch as an 'emergency replacement' and he's not left yet!) By the way, not pointing fingers at Sarries or saying Gloucester are innocent, just using those situations as examples!!

There's been a few of these deals over the past few weeks and for me, it's unethical. What's to stop a side only having a 23 man squad taking up the entire salary cap and just signing replacements when they lose a player? It's totally against the point of the salary cap as well as a roadblock to the academy lads! Obviously, if a team has a situation where they lose 3 scrum halves, then there could be a loan system, but some sides seem to be using this loophole as a 1 in 1 out contingency plan! The cap is there to build a squad with, not a first 15!

Sam Jones and Alistair Hargreaves

Wasps Sam Jones was called up for England last week and has unfortunately broken his leg in training, ruling him out for an extended spell. Meanwhile, Saracens South African lock Alistair Hargreaves has been forced to retire with complications and risks caused by several concussions.

On behalf of all at #Rugbyunited, we'd like to wish Sam a speedy recovery and Alistair our best wishes in his retirement.

Gloucester vs Salford

As part of Gloucesters 125th anniversary of being at Kingsholm celebrations, a team of Gloucester 'legends' will  face Salford Rugby Leagues legends side in the Mitsubishi Hybrid Cup this Sunday with the gate proceeds going to several charities.

Names like Jason Robinson, Mike Tindall, Lesley Vainikolo, Robbie Hunter-Paul, Olivier Azam, Adrian Morley, Iestyn Harris will all be on show, so iff you fancy something a little different, check it out!
